Volunteer Pathway

Join a committee and help strengthen the organization behind the scenes.

Committee Members help MNeurodivergent move important work forward without taking on the full responsibility of a board role or local Community Coordinator role. Committees support focused areas of the organization, including volunteer systems, training, exhibiting, outreach, sensory spaces, and statewide event operations.

What committee work is

Committees help turn important work into organized action.

MNeurodivergent has many moving parts: volunteer applications, onboarding, training, events, tabling, sensory-friendly spaces, outreach, and statewide community growth. Committees give volunteers a structured way to help with those systems without needing to lead the entire organization.

Committee Members may help review information, plan projects, improve processes, participate in meetings, or complete specific tasks that support a larger operational goal.

Focused involvement

Committee work lets you contribute to a specific area instead of trying to help with everything at once.

Shared responsibility

Members work with other volunteers so the work is not dependent on one person doing everything alone.

Room to grow

Committee work can be a good way to learn the organization and build trust before stepping into larger leadership roles.

What Committee Members generally do

Committee Members support a specific area of MNeurodivergent’s work by participating in committee communication, completing agreed-upon tasks, sharing feedback, and helping improve systems. This is a good fit for people who want structured, behind-the-scenes involvement without taking on a full leadership role.

Committee Chairs are not typically roles people apply for directly. Chairs are selected from within a committee based on consistency, trust, communication, experience, and interest in taking on more coordination responsibility.

Committee Members are expected to

  • Participate respectfully in committee communication and meetings.
  • Follow through on tasks they agree to take on.
  • Ask questions when expectations, timelines, or next steps are unclear.
  • Handle sensitive volunteer or organizational information responsibly.
  • Support MNeurodivergent’s values of accessibility, inclusion, and peer-led community-building.

These committees are currently ready to add members.

MNeurodivergent is currently onboarding additional volunteers into two major operational committees. As the organization grows, additional committees and working groups may become available.

People operations

Volunteer Committee

Supports volunteer review, background checks, training systems, policies, accountability, and volunteer support.

Event operations

Exhibiting Committee

Manages public event participation, tabling, sensory spaces, equipment transportation, setup, teardown, and volunteer coverage.

Volunteer Committee

The Volunteer Committee functions similarly to the people operations or HR-style support system of MNeurodivergent. This committee helps shape how volunteers are reviewed, approved, trained, supported, and held accountable throughout their time with the organization.

This committee helps ensure volunteers are prepared for their roles, understand organizational expectations, and receive the guidance and structure needed to contribute successfully within neurodivergent community spaces.

Exhibiting Committee

The Exhibiting Committee manages MNeurodivergent’s participation in conventions, festivals, conferences, Pride events, expos, and other public community events throughout Minnesota.

This committee functions as the central coordination team for public exhibiting and event operations. Members help ensure events are planned ahead of time, volunteers are scheduled appropriately, equipment is transported safely, and public-facing spaces remain welcoming, accessible, and well-supported.

  • You want to help MNeurodivergent show up professionally and consistently at events.

This may not be ideal if...

  • You are not interested in public events, tabling, or sensory spaces.
  • You strongly dislike logistics, calendars, or planning details.
  • You only want fully remote work with no connection to event operations.

Future committees and working groups

Additional opportunities may be added as the organization grows.

MNeurodivergent may create additional committees or project groups in areas such as development and fundraising, communications and media, technology and systems, partnerships, sponsorships, or statewide expansion support.

For now, the Volunteer Committee and Exhibiting Committee are the committees currently ready to add members.
